Our History

Earth Bridge Community Land Trust (EBCLT) was founded in 1973 by a small group of people with strong ideals and a wish to affect the future of land access and stewardship in the area. EBCLT was originally incorporated as Abnaki  Regional Land Trust in November, 1973. In consultation with members of the Abenaki tribe, four years later the organization changed its name to Earth Bridge Community Land Trust. The donated land, time, and creative thinking of the early founders of EBCLT became the basis for what has been a primarily member-run organization since that time.

EBCLT owns approximately 385 acres of land in Southeastern Vermont and Southwestern New Hampshire. The early years of EBCLT saw a great deal of time and energy devoted to supporting the lives of leaseholders and members. That commitment to the EBCLT community continues today, as the organization strives to connect members through work parties and community events.
